Driver Fleeing Scene After Plowing into Wagon with Injured Children

A driver fled the scene after plowing into a woman and her four young children in an intersection of Eden Prairie, leaving one child severely injured. The incident occurred on Thursday at around 8:20 p.m. at Mitchell Road and Chestnut Drive.

The victims are identified as Spogmai Kamawal and her children Somaia, 2, Samir, 11 months, and two other younger siblings whose names have not been released yet. The woman was walking towards their home when the crash happened, less than a half-mile away.

Somaia is in critical condition at HCMC, while Spogmai Kamawal and Samir were treated for injuries but released from the hospital. Police Sergeant Bryan Dean expressed his condolences to the family, stating that the children’s physical injuries are minimal but their emotional trauma is significant.

The police department is committed to finding the driver responsible and holding them accountable for this “reckless and tragic act.”
