James Dobson, Conservative Christian Leader and Founder of Focus on the Family, Dies at 89

James Dobson, a child psychologist and conservative Christian leader who founded the influential ministry Focus on the Family, has died at the age of 89. Dobson was a prominent voice in American politics for decades, advocating against abortion and LGBTQ+ rights.

Born in 1936, Dobson started a radio show counseling Christians on how to be good parents, which later led to the founding of Focus on the Family in 1977. The organization grew to have over 1,000 employees and gave Dobson a platform to weigh in on legislation and advise five presidents.

Dobson was a key figure in promoting conservative Christian ideals in American politics, working alongside figures like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. He campaigned for bringing religious conservatives into the mainstream and supported President Donald Trump’s presidency.

Despite his passing, Dobson’s legacy is set to endure through the many lives he touched and the families he strengthened. His radio program promoted guests who said they abandoned their homosexuality and instead embraced Christianity.

Dobson was a mentor to leading Christian conservative voices and played a significant role in shaping the American family ethos. He also founded the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute after leaving Focus on the Family in 2010.

The news of Dobson’s death has been met with tributes from fellow leaders, including Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, who described him as a “pioneer” and a leader in shaping American family values.
