European Postal Services Suspend Shipments to US Over Import Tariffs

Multiple European countries’ postal services are suspending shipments to the US amid uncertainty over new import duties. Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy have stopped shipping most merchandise, while France and Austria will follow Monday. India is also suspending shipments except for letters, documents, and gift items worth up to $100.

The US tariffs, set to take effect on August 29, are affecting international goods valued under $800, with exemptions in place for smaller packages. However, the lack of clarity over what goods are covered by the new rules has led postal services to pause deliveries.

“We cannot guarantee that goods will enter the US before August 29,” said DHL Germany. “Key questions remain unresolved regarding customs duties and data transmission.”

Other European countries’ postal services, including PostNL and Austrian Post, have also suspended shipments or expressed concerns over the lack of preparedness for new customs procedures.

India’s communications ministry stated that it will temporarily suspend postal deliveries to the US starting Monday, citing unclear processes for collecting and remitting tariff duties.
