Ukraine Attacks Druzhba Pipeline for Third Time, Halting Oil Deliveries to Hungary and Slovakia

Ukraine has attacked the Druzhba pipeline for the third time, halting oil deliveries to Slovakia and Hungary. The European Commission has not commented on the issue so far, but US President Donald Trump expressed his anger over the attack.

The Hungarian and Slovakian foreign ministers have urged the EU to take action against Ukraine’s attacks on the pipeline, which delivers oil from Russia to Central Europe through Ukraine and Belarus.

Hungary and Slovakia are among the few EU member states still importing large amounts of Russian oil due to carve-outs from sanctions targeting exports of Russian oil.

The attack on the Unecha oil pumping station in Russia was carried out by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, but no official acknowledgement has been made. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that oil deliveries for both countries will stop for at least five days.

US President Trump responded to a message from Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban, expressing his anger over the attack and calling Hungary a “great friend.” However, European Commission officials downplayed concerns about security of supply, noting that Hungary and Slovakia have sufficient emergency stocks of crude oil.
