Biden Admin Urges World Leaders on Syria, Gaza Ceasefire

The US government is urging world leaders to push for an inclusive, stable government in Syria, as Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the Biden administration has been in contact with Syria’s new Islamist leaders.

A potential ceasefire deal in Gaza could be within reach, according to national security adviser Jake Sullivan, who stated that Hamas became more serious about negotiations after a ceasefire came into effect in Lebanon. However, clashes between Palestinian Authority forces and militants in the occupied West Bank have resulted in at least one death.

The European Commission has announced plans to transport over 100 metric tons of humanitarian aid supplies to Syria and mobilize $4.2 million to ensure critical aid is provided swiftly.

Tensions continue in the Middle East region, with the Israel-Gaza war lasting over a year and fueling tensions in the surrounding area. A ceasefire deal between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah was agreed upon in November 2024, but the terms and enforcement remain unclear.
