Apple Sues Ex-Employee for Stolen Watch Secrets Over to Oppo

Apple has filed a lawsuit against Chen Shi, a former employee who worked on the Apple Watch team, alleging that he stole trade secrets and shared them with his new employer, Oppo. According to the lawsuit, Shi shared information about optical sensors, temperature sensors, and ECG sensors during one-on-one meetings with colleagues before leaving in 2025.

Shi allegedly downloaded sensitive files from Apple’s protected folder, transferred them to a USB drive, and then searched online for ways to access restricted areas. He also sent a message to Oppo stating that he would “collect as much information as possible” about Apple’s health-sensing technologies.

Oppo has denied the allegations, claiming it found no evidence of Shi’s wrongdoing during his employment. This is not the first time Apple has taken legal action against an ex-employee; earlier this summer, the company sued a design engineer for stealing trade secrets related to its Vision Pro project and sharing them with Snap.
