Apple is reportedly discussing incorporating Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence models into its Siri voice assistant, with shares rising 3% on the news. Google’s Gemini models have consistently topped AI performance benchmarks, but Apple has struggled to define its own AI strategy. However, Google faces potential risks to its lucrative search deals with Apple, including the possibility of losing its position as default assistant on Android phones.
The talks come after Apple executive Craig Federighi mentioned the need for additional AI models in its Apple Intelligence framework during last year’s developer conference.
