The Washington Capitals, 20-6-2, will host the Buffalo Sabres on December 14th at Capital One Arena. The Caps are coming off a 10-game road winning streak, which is tied for 12th in NHL franchise history. Aliaksei Protas scored both goals in Thursday’s 2-1 overtime win over the Blue Jackets, and Washington has won 20 of their first 28 games this season.
Washington vaults into the top spot in the overall NHL standings with a .750 points percentage after Minnesota lost to Edmonton on Thursday. The Caps’ point streak is now eight straight games (7-0-1). On Saturday, they’ll face a Buffalo team that has dropped its last eight contests, including six losses by one goal.
In Thursday’s game, Charlie Lindgren made his ninth victory of the season with stellar penalty killing and goaltending performances. The Caps will depart on Sunday for a two-game journey to Dallas and Chicago. Washington’s coach Spencer Carbery has kept big units together, resulting in all of the team’s offense coming from the trio of Protas, P-L Dubois, and Tom Wilson.
The Capitals have struggled at home since their seven-game winning streak, with just one win in their last six games (1-3-2). The Sabres, on the other hand, are seeking to improve on the road after suffering seven straight setbacks at home. Buffalo has won three of its last four games on the road and faces a tough stretch ahead with back-to-backs and a three-game trip.
