SpaceX Cargo Ship Docks at ISS with Fresh Supplies

A SpaceX cargo ship, the Dragon, successfully docked at the International Space Station (ISS) early Monday, delivering over 5,000 pounds of equipment and supplies. The spacecraft carried 1,500 tortillas, a crumb-free bread substitute that astronauts prefer due to its minimal crumbs in weightlessness.

Launched on Sunday from Cape Canaveral atop a Falcon 9 rocket, the Dragon completed a 28-hour rendezvous with the ISS ahead of schedule. Astronaut Mike Fincke radioed gratitude to those involved in the mission, stating that it’s their job now to care for the cargo.

The shipment included crew supplies, experiments, and station hardware, as well as an add-on thruster kit to boost the space station’s altitude. Due to the thin atmosphere at high altitudes, the ISS’s altitude slowly decays over time. The new thrust system will help counteract this effect, allowing the station to maintain its orbit starting in September.

The tortillas are a standard item for astronauts on board the ISS due to their crumb-free nature, making them ideal for consumption in weightlessness.
