Turok: Origins, a cooperative shooter game to be released on consoles including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, will run at 60 frames per second on these platforms. However, when asked about its performance on the Xbox Series S, Saber Interactive’s Madrid Game Director Jesús Iglesias explained that the game’s frame rate would be limited to 30 frames per second.
The reason for this difference lies in the Xbox Series S’s hardware limitations, particularly its lower memory capacity and fewer Compute Units compared to the Xbox Series X. This results in a significant disparity in performance between the two consoles, with the Xbox Series S capable of only 4 teraflops, while the Xbox Series X can handle around 12 teraflops.
This limitation highlights the challenges faced by game developers when targeting lower-end hardware, and Microsoft’s efforts to make its console more affordable have been met with limited success in terms of sales. Turok: Origins will utilize Unreal Engine 5 technology but is designed as a linear level-based shooter that may not heavily test the visuals.
PC system requirements for the game are yet to be released, and Saber Interactive is self-publishing the title without a specific release date announced.
