YouTube TV Dispute with Fox Could Block Detroit Sports

A dispute between YouTube TV and Fox is nearing its deadline, which could block Detroit sports fans from watching their favorite teams. The disagreement centers on payments that Fox wants but claims are too high for a streaming service.

If an agreement isn’t reached by Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET, YouTube TV will remove all Fox channels, including news, business, and sports networks. This would affect Detroit-area customers, who would lose access to WJBK-TV (Fox-2) and the Big Ten Network.

For Lions fans, the impact is significant. The team’s Sept. 14 game against the Chicago Bears is scheduled for a Fox broadcast, while eight of their regular-season games are tagged for Fox. Similarly, Michigan State and Michigan football games could be affected due to broadcast assignments on FS1 and the Big Ten Network.

The Detroit Tigers’ schedule also relies heavily on Fox broadcasts, with an exclusive broadcast set for Aug. 30. The American League Division Series in October would also be impacted.

However, alternatives are available for YouTube TV customers. Fubo and the Fox One app may still carry Fox channels through the fall season. Alternatively, cable and satellite providers offer packages with Fox channels included.
