A commercial airliner operated by American Airlines made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) after a bird strike damaged one of its engines. The Airbus A321 aircraft took off from LaGuardia Airport bound for Charlotte, North Carolina, but was forced to divert due to the engine failure. Despite being able to land safely with just one operational engine, officials have confirmed that a maintenance team will inspect the plane.
No injuries were reported among the 190 passengers and six crew members on board. The flight’s diversion was reminiscent of a similar incident in 2009 when US Airways Flight 1549 made an emergency landing on the Hudson River after a bird strike disabled both engines. American Airlines expressed gratitude for its crew’s professionalism while apologizing to customers for the inconvenience caused.
The aircraft will undergo maintenance checks, and passengers were provided with accommodations at a local hotel until further notice. The flight’s scheduled departure was set for Friday morning.
