Samsung’s upcoming mixed reality headset, Project Moohan, may be closer than expected. According to South Korean outlet Newsworks, the device is set to make its debut at Samsung’s Unpacked event on September 29th, followed by a release in South Korea on October 13th.
The report suggests that Project Moohan will retail between ₩2.5 million and ₩4 million South Korean won, or around $1,800 and $2,900 USD. While the price is lower than Apple’s Vision Pro, which launched at $3,500 in early 2024, it still positions the headset as a prosumer device.
Project Moohan will run on Google’s Android XR operating system, featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 + Gen 2 processor, Sony-sourced micro-OLED panels, and support for eye and hand-tracking. It is also expected to include VR motion controllers and automatic interpupillary distance adjustment.
Industry sources estimate that Samsung will ship around 100,000 units of the device this year, significantly less than Apple’s reported targets for Vision Pro. However, Project Moohan is seen as a stepping stone to Samsung’s wider smart glasses ambitions.
The company has yet to announce its own smart glasses, with several other firms vying for market share in the space. Google’s Android XR smart glasses are launching in partnership with Warby Parker, while Meta and Xiaomi have also recently entered the market with their respective smart glasses offerings.
