Google Overhauls AI Mode with Embedded Links for Better User Experience

Google has made significant changes to its AI Mode in search results to make links more visible and user-friendly. Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, announced that the company is actively working on surfacing more source links inside AI Mode.

The new updates include:

* Link carousels on desktop, which display multiple source links directly within AI Mode responses, providing context for users to decide where to click next.
* Smarter inline links, where the system decides where to place links in response text based on user behavior and relevance.
* A Web Guide experiment that groups useful links by topic using a custom Gemini model.

These changes aim to improve the overall user experience by making it easier for people to find relevant sources of information. The updates also offer new opportunities for publishers, as embedded links can influence how users reach their sites.

As Google continues to refine its AI Mode, users can expect continued testing around link density, placement, and labeling. With these changes, Google is trying to strike a balance between innovation and supporting publishers.
