Windows 11 Fixes Bluetooth Audio Issues with New Tech

Microsoft is improving sound quality for Bluetooth headphones in Windows 11 by replacing the current way of facilitating wireless headphones, Bluetooth Classic Audio, with Bluetooth LE Audio. This upgrade allows for high-quality audio and microphone support, benefiting PC gamers who often use in-game chat with a headset.

The new technology solves issues with Bluetooth Classic Audio, which has two modes of operation: full-quality audio without mic support, and lower audio quality with mic support (mono audio played back in both ears). Bluetooth LE Audio offers CD-quality audio and allows for the use of a microphone simultaneously.

To benefit from this new tech, your wireless headphones must support Bluetooth LE Audio, and your Windows 11 PC will also need to support LE Audio. Your device must be running the latest version of Windows 11 (the August update), and you may need a Bluetooth audio driver update.

New laptops being released late in 2025 should have this support baked in. Microsoft promises to provide driver updates for existing PC models later this year, so some users will need to wait. However, with this upgrade, PC gamers can enjoy improved sound quality and use their headset’s microphone without significant audio degradation.
