Microsoft has introduced a new LE Audio feature to improve Bluetooth audio quality on Windows 11. This feature, built on top of the Bluetooth Low Energy radio spec, uses a compression algorithm that results in higher-quality audio for gaming and voice calls.
The new LE Audio standard offers better sound quality, reducing muffled audio issues commonly experienced with Bluetooth headsets. When using an LE Audio device with a Windows 11 PC that supports super wideband stereo, game chat no longer causes an abrupt drop in audio quality.
LE Audio uses a 32kHz sample rate and replaces the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) and Hands-Free Profile (HFP) of Bluetooth Classic. This improvement allows for better audio compression and a higher sample rate, resulting in improved voice calls on apps like Microsoft Teams.
The new LE Audio feature requires a Bluetooth headset that supports it and a Windows 11 PC with the latest drivers and Windows 11 24H2 update. Existing PCs will receive necessary driver updates later this year, while most new mobile PCs expected to launch in late 2025 will have support from the factory.
