A year of conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate tensions between Israel, Hamas, Hezbollah, and other regional actors. In October 2024, Hamas militants launched an unprecedented cross-border attack on Israel, killing over 1,200 people and taking civilian hostages.
In response, Israel declared war on Hamas, launching a ground invasion that displaced hundreds of thousands of people. The conflict has also led to the death of several high-ranking leaders, including Hezbollah’s longtime leader Hasan Nasrallah.
Despite tensions between Israel and Western allies like the US, which supports Israel with military aid, the conflict shows no signs of resolution. A cease-fire deal between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah was reached in November 2024, but its terms remain unclear. The region remains gripped by violence, displacement, and humanitarian crises.
