A new study of nearly 34,000 veterans found that taking nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) supplements can reduce the risk of developing non-melanoma skin cancers by up to 54% among those who’ve already had skin cancer. The researchers suggest that starting the supplement after diagnosis with the first skin cancer is most effective in reducing the risk, and that it may be a useful tool for preventing skin cancer among patients at high risk. However, more research is needed to determine if B3 supplements are beneficial for people who have never been diagnosed with skin cancer.
