Britain’s MI6 is launching a new online portal, Silent Courier, on the dark web to attract potential spies, particularly from Russia. The service uses Tor browser for anonymous access to a secure messaging platform.
The launch comes after outgoing chief Sir Richard Moore used a public speech in 2023 to appeal to Russian citizens to spy for the UK. To safely use Silent Courier, users must take precautions like using VPNs and devices not linked to themselves. The portal advises creating a new email address with minimal personal data.
MI6’s new YouTube channel will provide instructions on how to use Silent Courier, which is part of the UK’s efforts to bolster its spy recruitment in Russia and worldwide.
