Amex Platinum Card Gets $200 Fee Increase, Unveils Enhanced Benefits

American Express CEO Steve Squeri is excited about the upcoming refresh of the Amex Platinum card, which will feature enhanced benefits and a price increase from $695 to $895 annually. The new card will provide cardholders with more valuable perks than any other widely-used card today. With this upgrade, Amex is doubling down on its focus on streaming, wellness, shopping, restaurants, and other lifestyle areas beyond travel.

Cardmembers will receive a range of benefits, including:
– A $100 quarterly credit at elite restaurants booked through the Resy site
– A $120 credit towards an Uber One membership for free delivery
– Discounts on yoga gear from Lululemon and Oura health rings
– Enhanced hotel benefits, such as early check-in, late checkout, and incidentals credits
– Increased spending limits in travel, dining, and entertainment categories

Squeri emphasizes that the new card will provide a sumptuous value to customers. The upgraded card will allow cardholders to reap over $3,500 in annual value, compared to $1,500 on the current card. With this investment, Amex aims to attract younger generations who are driving spending growth in these areas.

The new suite of rewards was inspired by a historic surge in restaurant spending among AMEX customers, particularly Gen Z and Millennials. By catering to their needs, Amex is confident that it can retain customers for decades.
