Tyler Robinson Charged with Murder of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk

Tyler Robinson, 22, is accused of fatally shooting right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, 31, who was speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10. The FBI is investigating the killing, which took place during a lecture by Kirk, and has said it will seek the death penalty.

Robinson, who had been involved in online activity, was taken into custody after his father recognized him from CCTV footage. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, witness tampering, and obstructing justice. A motive for the killing is not yet clear.

According to authorities, Robinson’s views on politics became more left-leaning in recent years, with his mother saying he had become “more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented”. His roommate allegedly showed investigators messages from a Discord chat where they discussed targeting Kirk.

Robinson has no prior convictions or history of violence. The investigation is ongoing, with officials looking into social media activity, including messages from Robinson’s account on the platform.
