YouTube has announced a significant price increase for existing subscribers, with monthly costs rising by $10 to $82.99 starting January 13th. In response, some users are employing an old tactic – threatening to cancel their subscriptions in hopes of being offered a deal to continue paying the lower rate of $72.99.
A Reddit thread spotted by 9to5Google shows several users who attempted to cancel and were instead offered a six-month extension at the original price. However, not all users experienced this outcome. Those who successfully extended their subscription report that doing so required logging in through a web browser on their computer and accepting the offer when prompted.
One Verge staffer confirmed receiving an extension offer after attempting to cancel her own subscription via YouTube TV’s website. As of today, Reddit users continue to report receiving the same offer, suggesting that the method of accessing the extension may be crucial for eligible subscribers.
