Did you know that some features in Windows are quietly using up your system resources without your knowledge? These services can slow down your computer and affect battery life, but don’t worry – Microsoft makes it easy to disable them. Here are five examples of unnecessary Windows services to cut out:
1. **Windows Update Delivery Optimization**: This service downloads update files from other PCs on your network, using up bandwidth and slowing you down. Disable Allow downloads from other devices in Settings > Windows Update.
2. **Windows Mobile Hotspot Service**: If you don’t use your laptop as a hotspot, this feature is not necessary. Disable it to free up resources by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Hotspot.
3. **Telemetry and Windows Error Reporting**: This service collects user data without your consent. Turn off Connected User Experiences and Telemetry in Settings > Privacy > Data sharing.
4. **Program Compatibility Assistant Service**: Most modern apps don’t need this feature, which tries to fix compatibility issues with older programs. Disable it by going to Services (Windows key + R) and finding the Program Compatibility Assistant Service.
5. **SysMain (aka Superfetch)**: This service preloads frequently used programs into your PC’s memory, but can slow down your system. Turn off SysMain in Settings > System > Advanced system settings.
Remember to check third-party app services that run in the background, too – you can disable them by pressing Win + R and typing msconfig.
