ICE Officer Relieved of Duties After Violent Arrest of Woman

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer has been “relieved of his current duties” after shoving a woman into a wall and pushing her to the ground at an immigration court in New York City. The incident, caught on camera, has sparked outrage among families affected by ICE enforcement actions.

The officer’s conduct is being investigated, and he may face felony prosecution. A spokesperson for US Rep. Dan Goldman said that the family of the woman involved in the incident are “here lawfully but are being targeted by ICE regardless.” The husband was taken into detention while his wife received medical attention for possible head trauma.

ICE officials have condemned the officer’s behavior, saying it is unacceptable and beneath the standards of the agency. The New York City Mayor’s office has also referred the agent to the US Attorney’s Office for felony prosecution, citing “flagrantly egregious conduct.”
