Ryan Reynolds Tries to Get Bill Murray for John Candy Documentary

Ryan Reynolds recently visited the State Theatre in New Jersey with a full house of fans laughing along as he shared his story about trying to get Bill Murray’s involvement in his new documentary about John Candy. As the film’s producer, Reynolds made it his mission to reach out to the Hollywood legend.

For decades, Bill Murray has used a unique voicemail system, setting up an 1-800 number that rings for just two minutes before going straight to voicemail. People have been trying to pitch their ideas and Murray’s involvement in the project to him through this number since its inception. Reynolds, who finally got the number “from a friend of a friend,” left his best shot.

However, when Murray called back, the timing was unfortunate, catching Reynolds off guard just as he was getting ready for a gala event with his wife, Blake Lively. The conversation turned heated, but ultimately led to their involvement in the documentary project. Despite a few hiccups, Reynolds managed to secure Bill Murray’s participation.

The documentary features an all-star cast, including Steve Martin, Martin Short, Macaulay Culkin, Eugene Levy, and Catherine O’Hara, among others. The film is clearly close to Reynolds’ heart, and it’s clear that his efforts paid off in the end.
