Mobile RTX 2070 Shunt Mod Boosts Performance by 15%

A PC enthusiast successfully shunted modded his Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile GPU, achieving a 15% performance uplift. This is equivalent to bringing the mobile GPU close to its desktop counterpart’s performance. The modder pushed the GPU from 115W to 175W, using a water-cooled Mini PC and multiple resistor changes on the PCB.

Shunt mods are common among GPU overclockers, but they require caution due to the risk of damaging hardware. By increasing power to the GPU, performance can improve significantly. In this case, the modder verified that thermals remained under control despite the extra wattage, with component temperatures around 80°C under load.

The results suggest that shunt mods can provide a worthwhile performance boost for mobile GPUs. This achievement is notable, especially since it was done on a laptop-style GPU. The modder’s success showcases the potential of shunt mods to enhance mobile GPU performance.
