Marcus Freeman Signed 6-Year Contract Extension at Notre Dame

Notre Dame football’s first-ever head coach has secured a lucrative six-year contract extension. Marcus Freeman, who took over the program in December 2021 after Brian Kelly left for LSU, will now be under contract until 2030.

Freeman’s new deal is believed to be among the most lucrative for college head coaches without a national title on their resume. The 38-year-old coach expressed gratitude towards the university’s board of trustees and athletics director Pete Bevacqua in a statement.

The extension comes after Notre Dame signed several high-profile coaching contracts this offseason, including extensions for Mike Denbrock, Al Golden, and Chad Bowden. The team is also investing heavily in new facilities, with the construction of a 150,000 square foot operations center expected to be completed by 2026.

Despite speculation surrounding potential NFL job openings, Freeman has stated his commitment to staying at Notre Dame. “I love this place,” he said in an interview. “The impact you can make on young people is so special.”
