Bitcoin Seizure: Chinese Woman Convicted of World’s Biggest Cryptocurrency Crime

A 47-year-old Chinese woman has been convicted in a UK court following an international investigation into her role in what is believed to be the world’s largest cryptocurrency seizure. Zhimin Qian, also known as Yadi Zhang, was found guilty of illegally acquiring and possessing bitcoin worth over £5 billion. She led a large-scale scam in China from 2014 to 2017, which involved cheating over 128,000 victims and storing their stolen funds in bitcoin assets. The investigation, involving multiple jurisdictions, resulted in the recovery of 61,000 bitcoin and the arrest of Qian. Her accomplice, Malaysian national Seng Hok Ling, also pleaded guilty to money laundering charges. The conviction marks a significant milestone in efforts to combat cryptocurrency-facilitated crime and sends a message that such activities are not tolerated in the UK.
