A sailor from New Bern, North Carolina, who died in the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Edward Bowden, a Fireman First Class, was previously known as an “Unknown” but has since been identified. He enlisted in 1940 and received several awards for his service, including the Purple Heart and World War II Victory Medal. His burial is set to take place on October 8, bringing closure to his family after months of uncertainty.
