Northern Lights Visible from US-Canada Border This Sunday Night

The northern lights will be visible from several states along the US-Canadian border on Sunday night, according to forecasters at NOAA. The aurora is expected to appear “brighter” and with more motion and formations due to a Kp index of four out of nine.

Minor geomagnetic storms caused by high-speed solar winds from coronal holes on the Sun will also impact Earth’s magnetic field, causing visible northern lights further south in the continental US. The aurora can be seen from parts of Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota, as well as much of the upper Midwest.

To view the aurora, travel north towards Earth’s magnetic north pole in northern Canada. Find a vantage point with a clear view north and try to conduct trips between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., when the lights are most active.

For photography, use a wide-angle lens or a low-light capable lens with an aperture of 4.0 or lower. Turn off flash and switch to night mode on smartphones. Bring a tripod to stabilize your device for better results.
