Family Reiterates Ellen Greenberg’s Death Ruled Suicide Despite New Review

A recent document from the Philadelphia medical examiner confirms that Ellen Greenberg’s 2011 death was ruled a suicide by Dr. Lindsay Simon, despite her family and attorneys claiming otherwise. The new review follows a settlement agreement reached with the city earlier this year, where officials agreed to reexamine Greenberg’s case.

The Greenbergs have long suspected their daughter’s death was not a suicide but rather a murder, and they have used experts to discredit the initial police investigation. However, Joseph Podraza Jr., an attorney for the family, strongly disputed Simon’s new review, calling it “flimsy” and stating that it ignores key evidence that contradicts the original ruling.

The family had planned to attend a hearing about the results of Simon’s review, but its current status is unclear. A judge last month criticized the city for allegedly violating a settlement agreement related to Greenberg’s case, suggesting that officials were dragging their feet.

Ellen Greenberg’s death was initially ruled a suicide after her fiancé reported finding her with 20 stab wounds in their apartment. However, an autopsy later reversed this finding, and officials eventually settled on a ruling of suicide. The Greenbergs’ attorneys claim that this is not supported by credible evidence and that the new review is also flawed.

Despite the ongoing disputes over Greenberg’s death, the family remains committed to seeking justice through other means.
