NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is reorganizing its workforce to ensure future success. As part of this effort, around 550 employees will be let go due to restructuring, affecting technical, business, and support areas. The move started in July and is not related to the ongoing government shutdown.
The affected employees will receive notifications on October 14. JPL has been open with its staff about the challenges ahead, and this decision is crucial for securing the laboratory’s future by creating a leaner infrastructure, focusing on core technical capabilities, and maintaining fiscal discipline.
Although it’s difficult, this restructuring will position JPL to compete in the evolving space industry while continuing essential work for NASA and the nation. The departing colleagues have made significant contributions to exploration and innovation, benefiting everyone involved.
