Young Republicans Embroiled in Racism Scandal

A group chat among young Republicans, leaked and reviewed by POLITICO, has sparked widespread condemnation over racist slurs and hateful jokes. The 2,900-page exchange included derogatory language for Black people, gay individuals, Latin Americans, and Asians, as well as celebration of Adolf Hitler.

Two members of the chat, Peter Giunta and Joseph Maligno, have lost their jobs due to the controversy, while Vermont Senator Sam Douglass faced calls for his resignation. The National Young Republicans group has called for all involved to resign.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer described the chat as “revolting,” saying that every Republican leader should condemn the comments swiftly and unequivocally. However, Vice President JD Vance expressed a different view, suggesting that those who made such comments could face consequences for their actions.

The fallout has sparked outrage from Democrats and Republicans alike, with some calling for party members to be expelled or lose their official roles. The controversy has also affected local GOP events, with vulnerable Republican Rep. Mike Lawler disavowing the chat members and calling for their resignations.
