ICE Acting Director to Answer Questions About Force Allegations

A Chicago court hearing has been rescheduled for Monday, where an acting ICE director will answer questions about force allegations against federal agents in the city. The Department of Justice is seeking another official to testify instead, citing knowledge of recent incidents and enforcement operations.

Judge Sara Ellis wants witnesses with first-hand knowledge of recent incidents and how a temporary restraining order is being enforced. She summoned Russell Hott, who was called to answer questions about alleged violations of the order regarding the use of force against peaceful protesters. However, the Department of Justice has requested Customs and Border Protection Deputy Incident Cmdr. Kyle Harvick to take his place instead.

The judge modified a temporary restraining order that requires agents working under “Operation Midway Blitz” to wear body cameras during law enforcement activities in Chicago. The hearing aims to determine whether this order will remain in effect. Judge Ellis emphasized the need for clarity on how agents enforce the law and ensure compliance with constitutional rights.
