Thousands of people from all ages and backgrounds took part in a peaceful protest against the Trump administration’s policies in Eugene, Oregon. The event, which started at the federal courthouse, marched several blocks to Olive Street and back to City Hall. Despite some minor verbal clashes with drivers and counterprotesters, the majority of protesters maintained a calm atmosphere.
The protest was attended by around 3,500-4,000 people, significantly fewer than the estimated 6,000-10,000 who turned out for the first “No Kings” rally in June. Protesters held signs expressing their fatigue with making signs and frustration with the administration’s actions, including immigration policies.
The event saw a diverse range of participants, including families with dogs, babies, and elderly individuals. Many wore inflatable costumes to spread positivity and joy. However, not everyone was pleased with the protest, as some counterprotesters were seen yelling insults at the crowd.
A counterprotester wearing a Turning Point USA hat shouted slogans in support of Christianity and conservatism, sparking exchanges with protesters. Meanwhile, a 47-year-old immigrant from Honduras spoke out against the Trump administration’s treatment of the Latino community, citing personal experiences with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
