Kentucky Medical Cannabis Dispensaries to Receive Licenses in Next Lottery

More medical cannabis dispensaries are set to receive licensure in the upcoming lottery drawing, following a recent draw that left only two areas of the state remaining unlicensed.

In total, 36 businesses have been named as potential dispensary locations, with the majority falling within regions surrounding Lexington and Louisville. Once licensed, these businesses will provide medical marijuana grown, processed, and tested to Kentucky residents with serious medical issues.

Executive Director of the Office of Medical Cannabis Sam Flynn has outlined the requirements for successful dispensaries, emphasizing a pharmacy-like experience without smokable products or food and beverage sales.

Key features of the program include an interconnected system for tracking patient data and procedures in place to ensure patients receive the correct amount of medicine. Dispensaries will not be limited to specific regions, with patients free to purchase medical cannabis at any licensed facility.

The northeast region has already seen three dispensaries granted licenses in Boyd County and one in Montgomery County, although only one dispensary will be allowed per county to minimize driving times. The next drawing for regions one and two, including Fayette and Jefferson counties, is scheduled for December 16, with a list of all licensed dispensaries set to appear on the Office’s website next month.
