Pentagon Journalists Rebel Over Restrictive Press Access Policy

Journalists outside the Pentagon are refusing to abide by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s new policy, which severely restricts press access. The policy is seen as an attack on the First Amendment and accurate reporting on military spending. Many outlets, including Fox News and Newsmax, have rejected the policy.

A silent protest was staged when a “journalism is not a crime” flyer appeared outside the Correspondents’ Corridor. However, it was removed, but an old plaque promoting free flow of information remains in the hallway.

Some journalists expressed regret over the clampdown, saying it won’t help bridge gaps between military and civilians. A longtime reporter said they’re worried about the policy’s impact on their ability to question officials who make life-and-death decisions.

Despite the restrictions, some journalists will continue to cover the Pentagon from outside, focusing on following the money and holding officials accountable for the $1 trillion budget.
