Fort Worth filmmaker Dominique Anderson is set to showcase a new short documentary titled “Bailando Culture” at the Lone Star Film Festival. The film focuses on Claudia Tiffany Rodriguez, a Texas Christian University student who performs ballet folklórico and has gained recognition for her elaborate performances honoring her Mexican heritage.
Anderson was inspired by Rodriguez’s passion and determination after watching a social media video of the dancer performing at an outdoor event. She saw an opportunity to document a story that had yet to be told about the challenges faced by Latinx artists in preserving their cultural heritage.
The documentary features intimate conversations with Rodriguez’s family, professors, and mentors, providing insight into her personal journey and the importance of cultural preservation in schools. The film was screened at several events in Fort Worth before the festival and has received positive community reactions.
Anderson hopes that “Bailando Culture” will not only showcase Rodriguez’s talent but also raise awareness about the significance of representation and cultural expression in sparking change. The short doc is part of the Lone Star Film Festival lineup, which features five filmmakers from Fort Worth and highlights their projects.
