Lebanon Leads World in Cancer Rate Increase

Lebanon is facing a growing health crisis with its fast-rising rate of cancer cases and deaths. According to a recent global survey, the country has seen a 162% increase in new cancer cases since 1990, with cancer-related deaths rising by 80%. The study, published in The Lancet, also predicts that cancer cases and deaths will continue to rise worldwide through at least 2050.

The main reasons behind this alarming trend are air pollution from vehicles and diesel generators, overuse of chemicals in agriculture, and a widespread smoking habit. The government’s lack of action on these issues is particularly concerning, as tobacco use has jumped nationwide, leading to higher rates of lung cancer and other types of cancer.

To combat this crisis, experts recommend improving health screening, banning smoking in public spaces, and launching anti-tobacco campaigns. A committee will be formed to examine the data and determine which laws need to be enacted or strengthened to address the problem.

Citizens are also being called upon to take responsibility for their own health by reducing pollution, improving the environment, and making healthier lifestyle choices. The government’s response is crucial in addressing this growing public health crisis, as many people are already losing loved ones to cancer.
