Expert Criticizes GPU Shortage as ‘AI Bubble’

Microsoft executive Britton Winterrose has expressed frustration with the current GPU shortage, stating that his job is “begging” for more GPUs. He also criticized Jensen Huang’s support of Bitcoin miners, saying they receive preferential treatment over deserving AI startups.

As a lead in Technical Business Development for Startups at Microsoft, Winterrose works closely with AI startups that struggle to source high-quality hardware. The shortage has led to many startups facing difficulties in acquiring the necessary equipment to succeed.

Winterrose, a former funder and AI expert, claims to have worked with over 500 AI startups since 2020. He believes that many of these startups are being unfairly excluded from GPU supplies due to preferential treatment given to Bitcoin miners.

In contrast, Winterrose argues that true innovators in the AI field deserve access to GPUs. He suggests that Huang’s support for Bitcoin miners is a “shallow well” that only benefits those who are not truly committed to advancing the field of AI.

Winterrose calls on industry leaders to provide guidance and resources to promising startups, saying they need vision, faith, and tenacity to succeed.
