Matthew Perry’s Struggle with Addiction Revealed by Co-Star Allison Janney

Actress Allison Janney has opened up about a difficult experience working with late actor Matthew Perry on set during his struggles with addiction. While appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Janney refused to name the person she wouldn’t work with again but confirmed it was Perry. According to insiders, Janney had no patience for the chaos caused by Perry’s inconsistent behavior, which could be charming one minute and impossible the next. Perry disclosed his struggles with addiction in his memoir, including becoming an alcoholic as a teenager and frequently being drunk or high on set during the latter seasons of Friends.

Janney shared her experience after Perry’s death, two years later, as part of the ongoing investigation into how he obtained the high dose of ketamine that contributed to his death. The Los Angeles Police Department opened an investigation in May 2024, leading to charges filed against five people, including Perry’s personal assistant and several individuals involved in the distribution of ketamine.

Perry’s struggles with addiction were well-documented before his death, including hospital and rehab stays throughout his career. He also admitted to having no memory of three entire years of work on Friends. The investigation into his death continues, with each of the five defendants facing up to 45 years in prison when sentenced.
