Google’s older Pixel models, like the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro, have hardware capable of supporting precision finding through their UWB chip. However, they don’t work due to a lack of support for background ranging. Without this feature, apps can’t use UWB in the background to estimate an item’s location.
The reason behind the requirement of background ranging is unclear, especially since users need to keep the Find Hub app open for precision finding to work. The current limitation affects the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7’s ability to provide precise location guidance, unlike newer models like the Pixel 8 Pro. This issue may be resolved in the future as more compatible trackers become available.
