Miniature Windows 7 Booted in 69MB Proof-of-Concept

A Windows enthusiast has successfully created and booted a heavily stripped-down version of Windows 7, taking up only 69 megabytes of disk space. The miniature build, shared online on October 29, demonstrates how far the operating system can be cut down while still achieving a successful boot sequence.

The system boots to the Windows desktop but lacks essential components, preventing it from running standard applications. Users would need to manually add missing system files to launch even simple programs. Despite these limitations, the experiment has generated interest among Windows enthusiasts and hobbyists interested in lightweight system builds.

A version of the project is available for public viewing and download on Archive.org: https://archive.org/details/Win7-69mb. This proves that Windows 7’s flexibility can be customized to create unique, compact operating systems.
