Windows 11 KB5067036 Preview Update Brings Administrator Protection and Redesigned Start Menu

Microsoft has released the KB5067036 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, which marks the beginning of rolling out the long-awaited Administrator Protection cybersecurity feature. This update also includes an updated Start Menu with new categories and grid views.

The KB5067036 update starts a monthly non-security preview update schedule, which releases updates at the end of each month to test new fixes and features coming in the next month’s Patch Tuesday. Unlike regular cumulative updates, these monthly non-security previews do not include security patches and are optional.

To install this update, users can open Settings > Windows Update and click on “Check for Updates.” The update will be downloaded automatically if the user has the option enabled or manually installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Once installed, the KB5067036 update brings several new features to Windows 11, including:

* Administrator Protection: This feature reduces the risk of malicious programs running commands or performing actions that require administrative privileges. Users must verify their identity with Windows Hello integrated authentication before allowing any action that requires admin rights.
* Redesigned Start Menu: The updated layout now includes new categories and grid views, a responsive design, and a scrollable “All” section for easier navigation.
* Phone Link integration: A new mobile device button next to Search allows users to expand or collapse content from their connected phone.
* New 3 Recommended files in File Explorer Home
* Updated battery icons on the lock screen
* Improved performance of loading the taskbar after unlocking from sleep

Microsoft notes that there are currently no known issues with this update, and it’s available for installation.
