AI’s Power Consumption Hinders Global Expansion

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella warns that the biggest issue in the AI industry is not a surplus of compute, but a lack of power to accommodate all those Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). The company has insufficient electricity to install all its AI GPUs in inventory, leading to idle chips and power shortages. Experts agree that scaling up data centers to meet growing demand for AI services could be delayed due to the high energy requirements. Additionally, some experts predict a potential “AI bubble” collapse, which could affect non-tech companies and expose nearly $20 trillion in market cap.
