AI Threatens Entry-Level Jobs, but Healthcare Sectors Shine

The alarm sounded by leaders like Ford CEO Jim Farley and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell about the threat of AI to entry-level jobs may be true. Since ChatGPT’s rise, job postings in the US have fallen by 32% as employers turn to AI tools for efficiency boosts.

Young workers, particularly Gen Z, are bearing the brunt, with a 13% drop in job postings since 2022 in fields like software development and customer service. However, not all sectors are declining. The healthcare industry is one of the few areas experiencing growth, despite low median salaries.

Home health aides, which require only a high school diploma and on-the-job training, are seeing strong demand with nearly 740,000 new positions expected over the next decade. In contrast, many healthcare jobs come with higher paychecks, such as nurse practitioners, who can earn up to $130,000 per year.

Unlike other fields, AI is unlikely to significantly impact healthcare jobs in the near future, according to experts like Geoffrey Hinton and Demis Hassabis. They believe human empathy and care will remain essential in this sector. While the job market is uncertain, healthcare offers a rare stability and long-term financial security for workers.
