The investigation into the 2022 Louvre heist is ongoing, with three of four suspects arrested so far. The thieves stole $100 million worth of iconic jewelry, including Empress EugĂ©nie’s crown, which features over 2,000 diamonds and 56 emeralds. Despite their brazen theft, DNA samples found at the crime scene helped authorities identify the suspects.
Three of the four suspects are suspected of breaking into the museum, with two of them partially admitting to the crime during custody hearings. The suspects have been charged with theft by an organized gang and criminal conspiracy. One suspect is believed to be waiting outside the museum with motor scooters used in the getaway.
The police have not yet recovered the stolen jewelry, but officials say it is possible that some items may still be hidden in France. The authorities are reviewing DNA samples to determine whether a fourth suspect was involved in the crime.
The Louvre’s security failures were attributed to a lack of perimeter cameras, with only 25 cameras on the museum’s exterior compared to several dozen at the British Museum. The investigation is ongoing, and officials hope that the recovered jewelry will be returned to its rightful owners.
