The Golden State Warriors have acquired point guard Dennis Schroder in exchange for De’Anthony Melton, with the deal also involving a 2025 second-round pick from the Miami Heat. The Warriors are looking to bolster their roster after Melton suffered a season-ending injury.
Schroder has been one of the top guards in the NBA this year, leading the Brooklyn Nets into play-in contention in the Eastern Conference. He averaged 18.4 points and 6.6 assists per game before joining the Warriors.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr praised Schroder’s skills, saying he is a “gamer” and a “competitor.” The team plans to use him as a starter, alongside Stephen Curry in the backcourt.
The deal also brings in rookie Reece Beekman from the Santa Cruz Warriors’ G League affiliate. Beekman will join De’Anthony Melton, who was traded away due to injury.
Schroder is on an expiring contract worth $13 million and is expected to join the Warriors soon. His addition is seen as a boost for the team, which has struggled without Melton in recent games.
