Five former Indonesian prisoners, known as the “Bali Nine,” have been returned to Australia after spending nearly two decades behind bars for their roles in a high-profile drug smuggling case. The group’s release comes amid renewed efforts by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to mend strained relations with Indonesia. On Sunday, five of the nine original prisoners – Matthew Norman, Scott Rush, Martin Stephens, Si Yi Chen, and Michael Czugaj – were welcomed back to Australia after their return from an Indonesian prison. This move marks a significant step towards healing tensions between the two nations, which had been strained by the 2005 case.
