Man Charged with Murder Over $30 Debt to Sex Worker

A 65-year-old man, Raymond Lewis Jones, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder after fatally shooting a 42-year-old woman in his Minneapolis apartment during a dispute over a debt of $30. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, and police were called when they found the woman dead on the floor with a pocketknife in her hand.

Jones claimed he met the woman near E. Franklin Avenue and told investigators that she was a sex worker from an area where he had previously picked up prostitutes. He stated that the two of them made arrangements for sex but eventually had a disagreement over the payment. The woman, who took $30 left on the table without Jones’ permission, put her jacket back on to leave, prompting Jones to say “this isn’t working.” He then shot and killed her.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the victim’s identity due to the ongoing investigation. Jones remains jailed on a $1 million bail ahead of his court appearance later this week.
